What happened to Charlie Brown?

It’s that time of year again. It’s time for the Great Pumpkin. However, he won’t be arriving the same way anymore. Growing up, certain times each year would bring the whole family together for a 30-minute window. Families would pop popcorn and settle in to watch a yearly tradition of holiday programming that came on once a year and then disappeared as suddenly as it came. Charlie Brown was one staple in my household. I would excitedly watch as the Peanut Gang filled my screen. I rolled my eyes when Snoopy began his flying adventures and counted down until the gang returned. The minute the cartoon started, a sense of peace and happiness would settle over me. Not only because of my cartoon heroes but also because it signaled internally to me the holiday season was upon us. Not only did the gang trick or treat, but around December, they would appear again to tell us the story of the real reason for Christmas. The dance scene itself replays in my mind anytime I see people dancing. Sadly time has passed, and slowly society around us has changed. My children are now older, and I can’t fathom that you couldn’t watch an episode anytime you wanted. How did we wait for it until the following year? They will never understand that it is part of what made it so special. It was a treat, something to be cherished and looked forward to. Technology has given us almost instant access to anything we want. Patience and attention spans have gone down. New generations look at my beloved cartoons and see only bad graphics and annoying music. They miss what made these cartoons so special, the anticipation and signaling of a season. To my dismay, trying to find an episode playing during the seasons is hard to find. Networks choose only to play them on their specific streaming channels. Charlie Brown is being lost in time. I have had to purchase my cartoons to ensure I can see them each year. My kids need clarification as to why I only watch them once a year at a specific time. I can watch them anytime I want. They argue. They need to include the magic and may be able to understand. As for me, I will watch for the Great Pumpkin and tear up when the gang puts on the nativity. I will continue to make these special moments even if I am the only one. Long live Charlie Brown.

I have included a link to the cartoons on Amazon. You can grab them for yourself and capture some of that old holiday nostalgia. I am honest that I may receive compensation for your purchase from the link I included. That is another thing that has changed with time, transparency: no tricks or gimmicks, just honest talk about what is happening. Even if you don’t purchase them or already have them, enjoy the season and dance like you are at a Peanut gang party.

Click on the link above to go directly to the site to purchase. They have a holiday collection with all four or individually for each holdiay. Enjoy
